alright, so I was rather excited to hear from Hiroyuki that I'll be receiving the SUPERFLY from him.
Honestly, I was expecting something pretty solid feeling like yoyos from Turning Point or Yoyorecreation, but when I got it, it didn't felt like what I expected, not that it's not good, I like how the laser engravement look like, it's just a simple artwork of SUPERFLY in a 3-tier design, but I personally kind of dig it. And also, I'm not a fan of this shape, not that I hate it, I just don't dig this shape. But upon playing, it ain't that bad.
So like I said, I was expecting it to have a very solid feel, and what I mean by solid feel is like... like I mentioned, my definition of solid feel is something like YYR's and TP's yoyo. But I do not mean that if the yoyo doesn't have my definition of solid feel, it's not a good yoyo. it's just an impression. So when I first throw the SUPERFLY, it felt somewhere between floaty and solid to me, and it felt kind of light in the palm when actually it weighs at 68g.
so those were the first impression. As I throw it more often, I begin to enjoy it more, in fact it became one of my few frequent throws. My opinion towards it kind of changed a little, it felt a little solid, yea, contradicting? but yea, that's what I feel towards it and I should mention it, right? and it started to feel heavy during play. could be because of the weight distribution that's why it felt light in the palm but feels heavy upon playing.
I want to add that, maybe because it's coming from a Japanese yoyo player, I would expect it to feel like most Japan branded yoyos, but a different expectation does not necessarily mean that it's not a good yoyo. It just came to my mind that maybe that's how Hiroyuki want his yoyo to be like.
To sum things up, the SUPERFLY feels rimmed weighted, pretty stable, providing spins long with the KK bearing installed, and really smooth on the string, even though weighing at 68g, it can be played fast. It grinds, but not butter smooth. Mine's a clear anodised finished one I think, if that helps you in deciding how well it grinds. Handles flop pretty well, hops are easy, the catch zone's pretty huge with that shape, I don't use the string that sOMEThING provided, not a fan, I used Kitty String normal OR nylon.
Locals have tried out the SUPERFLY, there's people who like it, there's people who don't dig it. I can honestly say I WAS expecting a different feel from the yoyo at first, you can say some of us kind of generalize how a yoyo from a Japanese maker should feel I guess?
But I later turn out to like the yoyo more. But, it'll still be better if you try the yoyo out yourself, if you own this yoyo, have a different opinion, reply to the comment section!
and any locals that have yet to try the SUPERFLY, do try it out.
