I really think that this is good for those who are new! Shared from bowleryoyo.com

Things that I learned from BIYO 2011

Bali International Yoyo Open 2011 is definetely AWESOME! So awesome, i didn’t have a chance to record it by photos or videos, because i was stunned by the spinners all around the world that compete, and not to forget about our very self national champions.

They are Hiroyuki “Mickey” Suzuki (Yoyojam), 3 times world champion in a row from Japan, Marcus Koh (Turning Point) this year Asia Pacific runner-up from Singapore, Darrell Mitchell (Crucial) from Singapore, Iskandar Shah (Diamond Noir) from Singapore, Mohammad Shakeel (Yoyoskeel) from Malaysia, Raymond Thian (28Spin) from Malaysia, Hassan Bin Mariallis (Werrd) from Malaysia, Faeez (Duncan) from Malaysia, Ewin EE from Malaysia, Kenichi Iida (Yoyo Island) from Japan, Alex Yao (singaporeyoing) from Singapore, Syed Faeez (Duncan) from Malaysia, Michael Nakamura (Crucial) from USA, and our very own Kevin Nicholas, Ahmad Kharisma, Muri Sheehan, Galih Kurniawan, Hendra Kusumah, Trivet Sembel, and some many players more.

I saw a lot of things, habits, and attitudes there and i came up with some lessons we should learn from them as they are well respected spinner from global yoyoing community.

1. Always mind your appearance! Even though your performance is good, it will look even more good with a nice and matching apparels. A pair of a good looking shoes, clean t shirt (preferably dark colors, so the judges and audience can see the string clearly), nice shorts or pants, and also other accessories like beanie / hat / cap / glasses/ bandana will complete your awesomeness ^^. Ow, sometimes we forget how important your hairdo does to your appearance ^^.

2. Mickey! I’m not talking about his yoyo skills which everyone already knows that he is magnificent player. I want to note about his style an attitude. He always ready for the shows. Stylish and elegant with the signature sunglasses ^^ and as one of the major icon of BIYO 2011, he always remember to spray AXE to his body. AXE is a deodorant spray and a main sponsor of this event. That is great for the sponsor and open up possibilities for next year event sponsorship.

3. Strings are extremely expandable! A lot of professional players say this, but i never gave it a thought, not until BIYO 2011. I witnessed myself that a lot of pro spinners throw away the string just after they done their practice or freestyle, so they keep their yoyo inside the bag stringless. Everytime they want to pick up other yoyo, they just put on new string on it and i didn’t saw them cutting the string, so they play with standard string length.

4. Daeven Neeve! Personally i admire his passion and spirit for yoyoing! From day one, he seemed always playing yoyo non stop on the BIYO stage, even when the stage wasn’t ready yet!

5. Friendships! When it comes to yoyoing, there’s no nations, there’s no language and culture boundaries. Just yoyo! Laugh together, sharing tricks, chat, even doing any collaborations with literally anyone.

6. When you come to a contest, don’t forget to load up your wallet, because your gonna see a lot of things that will absorb your wallet instantly! Cool stuffs like yoyos (of course) even prototype and signature ones, accessories, and apparel :drool

6. Don’t forget to drink! Always hydrate yourself so you can be in perfect condition during the contest.

7. Sportivity! No matter who is on the stage, always cheer him up and no matter who win, they always having a great time together.

8. Spare a day after the contest, because that day will be awesome. Hanging out with fellow yoyoers from other cities or even countries certainly will make your day. This is the time to share everything from stories to tricks ^^

9. It doesn’t matter what yoyo you bring, they don’t care actually. Just have fun and share some tricks ^^

So, always try to come and join any yoyo contest you can come. No matter if you win or lose the contest, but surely you will have a GREAT time ^^
