YoYoFactory Classic eight8eight
The eight8eight has been one of the most influential yo-yos of the past decade. It was released at an interesting time in YoYoFactory history, recovering from the release of the flawed original Grind Machine 2 the 888 the first general release to bear a $100 price ticket. The rest they say is history. The eight8eight brought smooth to the people, ushered in a new era of collectability, showed new features need not compromise performance and has become one of the largest selling premium metal yo-yos of all time. Almost every major contest worldwide has been won with an eight8eight (including 5 different national titles and the 2007 world title). It is still the benchmark all other metal yo-yos are compared to today.
The classic eight8eight project was one born out of consumer demand. A short run (500 pieces) has been created to the exact specifications of the 1st run eight8eight (originally released for sale May 5 2007). Many argue these to be the 'best' eight8eights ever produced. To match the original profile a return has been made to the original 6061 material, original matte finish and original logo. Original branding was not used as to distinguish them from originals at the request of collectors.
Changes from the original do exist in the stainless steel axle, SPEC bearing, Silicone Pad response (although the recess is identical to the original and flowable silicone can still be used) and the 'blind' hubstack post to secure the axle.

So bottom line, "how does it stack up? Firstly to the original, and then to everything else released in the past two years?"
The answer is one word STUNNINGLY!
Since the production of the original eight8eight YoYoFactory have become better at producing consistently undeniable product. Small things during the process make a big difference and the Classic eight8eight benefits from all of these.
Compared to other yo-yos available the eight8eight was ahead of its time and still is ahead of the curve in many respects. While others may be getting closer the eight8eight still wears the deservingly wears the crown as #1.
