today i came across a thread on how to identify a duncan freehand.
when getting freehands from the BST forums, you can easily identify a freehand2(fh2) from a freehand original(fh1) or freehand zero(fhz/fh0).
but not everyone can differentiate a fh1 from a fhz, especially through photo when they have not seen a fh1, and also when its a higby dyed fh, with ballistic caps and stuff.
this is just for reference purpose. click on the image below for larger view.
i'm pretty sure everyone know the difference between the fh2 and the fh1/fhz. the shape is obvious. otherwise look at the body, there's these 6 mold inject thingy, i don't know what u call them. and they uses paper pogs.
now the fh1 and fh2.
so if the logo on the caps is gone, or the caps is replaced by Ballistics', how do u identify through picture given by the seller?
for me i usually ask for the insides.
the wall/sticker area are different. the fh1 is flat and usually has this mold lines thingy on it.
the fh2 on the other hand has this ridge thing that help u put the sticker in place, and also the 3 little hole thingy. and also for the fh1, there's this oring slot underneath the spacer(look at the images below), like the early fh2s, unlike the fhz, which is just a empty slot.
BUT, the fhz's wall can be flat as well after a good modding, like how Luke Vader does.
so if it's like this, look at the spacers.
left fh1 spacer, right new duncan spacer.
the fh2 and fhz uses the same type of spacer.
but the fh1 spacer has a thinner spacer, but the fh2/fhz can also use their thinner spacer(silver), the thing is the thin spacer from the fh1 is different from the fh2/fhz ones.
the spacer from the fh1 has a smaller bearing seat, the 2nd layer of brass on that spacer.
and also has a longer erm, what you call that, a tip?
you see, there's usually 3 "layers" on a spacer, the bottom largest, the middle seat, and the top, the hole part. that hole part is longer than the spacer duncan now has.
pretty hard to just write out, try to figure out from the picture if you don't get what i'm saying. so new spinners that want to buy fh1, look out for these. don't get scammed of a fhz with fh1 caps. cause in my opinion, they do feel different in play, i'm not the only person who think so.
